“Cheese of Champs Sale” happens during the Livestock Sale.
The Vernon County Cheese of Champs Sale benefits all youth that show dairy cattle and participate in activities through the Vernon County Dairy Youth Group. 4 cheese lovers baskets (made from milk produced at the fair) and 4 themed baskets are auctioned off at the conclusion of the junior livestock auction. Proceeds from the sale include 50% going directly back to individual youth as follows:
-The exhibitors of the Supreme Champion Grade and Registered Cows and the exhibitor of the Champion Bred and Owned.
-Four dairy youth showmanship winners (one from each of the four age groups).
-Five lottery winners from the showmanship classes: 3rd and 4th grade (1) 5th and 6th grade (1) 7th and 8th grade.
The remaining 50% of sale proceeds will go to the Vernon County Dairy Youth Fund for annual dairy youth activities and benefit all dairy youth in the following ways:
Farm tours, educational scholarships, dairy judging, dairy bowl, dairy career videos, dairy career panels, Snow Day Funday, Make It with Milk Day, Day of Dairy, dairy youth T-shirts, triple show premiums, and showmanship premiums for Jr. dairy exhibitors at the county fair, trips to World Dairy Expo, and the Outstanding Jr. & Sr. Dairy Youth Awards as primary examples.
